York antepost
One in the Musidora stakes.
York is one of my favourite racecourses, if you haven’t been then I strongly recommend going, and this week of racing promises to be as superb as it usually is.
A race that I’ve dug into is the Musidora Stakes, and whilst it’s quite an unoriginal angle in, I simply can’t see past Legacy Link and I’m keen to get the current 5-2 in my book before the price undoubtedly approaches/passes odds on. The debut run was behind Evolutionist, who ran an absolute blinder behind True Love in the Guineas last weekend, and I remember thinking at the time that Legacy Link needed further after being 5L into third that day. It wasn’t a particularly strong race that LL won nto, reversing the form with the 2nd on debut, Lyrics of Life, but not much at all in behind so I do think that won in spite of the trip, 1m like debut, rather than down to it. The third and final run, before being put away for the winter, is heavily linked to the Guineas form of last weekend, again finishing behind Evolutionist though much closer, clearly improving closer with racing, Venetian Lace (3rd last week) filling 2nd that day, and the SP fav Precise winning. That is probably the best piece of form going into the Musidora for me, and I’m delighted that they’re coming here with a trip that seems perfect for Legacy Link.
John Gosden has an incredible 8 wins in this race, and will match Henry Cecil’s record of 9 should either this or Symbol Of Majesty win. With Legacy Link’s breeding suggests this trip will be perfect, alongside the clear evidence a mile was too short, I’m expecting her to win before going onto the Oaks next month.
