Racing Review
A taste of the kind of thing that I'll be doing daily.
My first review of the day’s racing, which I hope you find informative. This one is free, and I will be doing one free per week. If you think this kind of stuff will be of use to you, consider trialling a month. Some days will be like this, even busier with more detail, some days may be next to nothing. I hope this shows the work needed to keep on top of all this, and what a chore it can be at times! Anyway, make a cuppa because there’s a lot in here…
Windsor 14:25 5f C6 handicap- Pace held up, Cameley Days went to the front and never came back to them. Good ride from SDS. Eyecatcher is Dragon God, Rossa Ryan would want that back after choosing an awful route through. Backed into 11-4 fav. Under Curfew another unlucky horse for Carroll, but needs further for me. Checked entries and has 2, one over 5 and 5.5f this week. Would expect the 5.5f, and potentially a bet. Tilsworth Ony Ta much better than finishing position, wide trip and not really touched with a weak finish. Well handicapped, expect a potential plot at Lingfield.
Windsor 15:27 1m C5 handicap- Pace held up again, two to take out are Under The Sun and Crimson Road. Under The Sun needs riding prominently, was behind the leadind 3/4 but stayed on well with a questionable ride going so wide. The finishing position of 3rd should be marked up, front running track next after being dropped a few £? Crimson Road away dreadfully, travelled like a dream into it but again was never getting into it. Ended up well beaten trying to make ground up. Not a very good horse, but they will find something at Chepstow/Bath for that one. Similar comments apply to Flint’s other runner, Risen Again. SP’s of 40 and 50-1 ridden cold, expect improvement in a month or two’s time. Zarathos will be overbet next time, won well but no real signs of doing that would struggle to see a repeat next time. May win, but will open up the rest of the market due to the manner of that.
Windsor 16:00 1m3f C6 handicap- V good ride by Rossa Ryan, first handicap of the day where the pace didn’t hold up and Moon Over The Sea benefitted just like lto at Brighton. More value than the winning distance would suggest, will win next time. Cribbins needs further, caught my eye at Kempton. Big old boat will probably step up to 1m5/6 nto, travelled in snatches today. Bred to be better than showing, huge drifter today, wouldn’t rush to back it but of interest over a trip.
Windsor 16:35 1m2f C6 handicap- Hawaiian King, that is all. Huge drift before the off in a race I thought it had a chance, blew the start (by accident I’m sure) and was incredibly keen whilst being restrained. Hands and heels to the line not asked for effort. Big dig into next race. Possible/probable bet.
Windsor 17:10 6f C6 handicap- Just Jump prominent in the market before getting loose. Check race next time. Not much else to say, Twirler did everything wrong and still won. SDS will be annoyed that he couldn’t dictate, superb run from Candy Warhol to ruin that one’s chances. Nothing really of interest from that race. Future reference- big line through Eve Johnson Houghton’s.
Redcar 17:15 6f C6 handicap- 2 went to far side, including Canaria Queen. Both fighting for places at the end, can’t argue with their tactics as got close but personally think near side would have had CQ the winner. Next time worth a look. She’s A Dark horse broke well for a small stable banging in winners, first run since December and looked unfit. Another look into next time if turned around quickly
Redcar 17:50 6f C6 handicap- Bayraat another failure from a yard that I avoid. A classic example of lower marks not always meaning well handicapped. Soft as anything when asked and cosily beaten. Barmyblade making use of the far rail, finished 4th after making a mid move race. It seems to be paying off, keep an eye for future meetings if it continues. Winner won cosily in the end, would fancy that to perhaps rack up a sequence given the rating. Check next couple of races.
Redcar 18:20 1m6f C5 handicap- Not much of note here. Winner won well, Billy No Mates stayed on well, staying races aren’t really my bag but perhaps one to take a look at next time after returning from a break today.
Redcar 18:50 7f C5 handicap- Lord Capulet well backed near the off and stays on well to win. Nothing else to note from that race, could have a bit more juice in the mark going forward.
Redcar 19:50 1m C6 handicap- A race that finished strung out, and one I wouldn’t take much from going forward. Give Me Sun was an obvious eye catcher into third, just pipping Lope Y Linda who made the most of that far side and ran a cracker. In behind, the majority were treading water and going backwards quickly. Impressive winner, but beat nothing there and would be keen to see the next field it turns up in. Another that will be overbet early, perhaps for good reason, but creating an inflated market.
Redcar 20:20 6f C6 handicap- WATCHING TOMORROW WILL EDIT
Southwell 18:30 1m C5 handicap- Superb ride by Rowan Scott on the winner, Roaring Ralph lost nothing in defeat and I’d fancy that to win next time. One to take out who I had my eye on before the race, Belassio for Grant Tuer. Great form on turf last year, returned here on the AW for a pipe opener, stayed on nicely and will be running on turf again soon.
Southwell 19:30 7f C6 handicap- Absolutely nothing to pick out of that race. Reputation won well after playing up at the start, a few had chances to go past and didn’t with zero excuses. Usher’s did interest me pre race, but that looks limited on the basis of that. Poor race going forward.
Southwell 20:00 7f C6 handicap- Good old Mickey Mongoose! The most obvious one of the day, Tickets, was stopped. He should be banned for that. I wouldn’t even begin to tell you where to back that one at, Haslam is beyond me, but another day is in mind. Don’t give up on the fav, an awful ride going that wide and using so much gas. Will be a bigger price next time, and will get dropped a few for that. A better jockey and you could have a nice bet
Southwell 21:00 2m C6 handicap- NO INTEREST IN RACE
